What Attendees Are Saying …

“Awesome! … Always inspiring! … Tom did a wonderful job, very engaging and knowledgeable …  First time attendee and had an amazing and inspiring experience – a great use of my time for me and my company … Thank you for bringing Zingtrain up here!”

Tom Root kicked off his presentation by acknowledging that the leadership approach he was about to share would probably be considered fairly radical or at the very least non-traditional. He was right.  Root, Co-Managing Partner of Zingerman’s Mail Order business talked about turning the standard organization chart on its head so instead of leaders holding all the power and expecting staff to serve them, they saw themselves as serving those who were working for them. He shared how Zingerman’s leaders actively seek input from employees on decisions, provide weekly on-going employee development opportunities and even open their financial books to let employees in on how the business is doing so employees can play a more active role in the success of the business.

Tom also shared how important it was for leaders to have and share a clear, inspiring vision of where they want to go. Attendees walked away with a handout that outlined the Zingerman approach and also provided an example of how Zingerman’s casts their vision to employees.  To top it all off, participants were treated to a sampling of one of Zingerman’s most popular food products – brownie bites!

Our special thanks to all our sponsors who made it possible to bring Zingtrain to Traverse City!
