How do you create a highly iterative and agile environment that leads to innovation? Innovation requires an environment that allows people to quickly iterate and pivot as they learn from real world outcomes. The old way of coming up with ideas and designing and developing these ideas in a waterfall approach does not work. We need an agile, highly iterative approach that allows us to quickly implement our ideas and then pivot as we take real world feedback. Inphastos, Inc. is a company that is revolutionizing the way we build single family and multi residential housing. Inphastos, located in Traverse City, was founded in January 2018 and is developing a manufacturing platform for constructing housing in a highly automated factory environment.
Paul’s business success, experience and expertise has made him a coveted, prestigious speaker at industry and technology conferences and we’re excited to have him sharing his principles for innovating at our June event. Paul’s accomplishments also earned him a top 20 spot on Silicon Valley’s most influential list as well as awards for restoring communities in upstate New York.
Paul is also the Founder of Northbay Capital, a private equity fund investing in business opportunities throughout Northern Michigan.
Prior to launching Inphastos and Northbay Capital, Paul was chairman and co-Founder of @visory, LLC. @visory was founded in September 1999 and provided funding and strategic advisement services to seed and early stage ventures. In addition to founding @visory, Paul is also the Vice Chairman and Founder of Reciprocal, Inc. From its inception in 1996 until December 1999, Paul helped Reciprocal become the leader in Digital Rights Management. In addition, Paul served as CIO and partner of Softbank Services Group, a 2,000-person global outsourcing business.
Paul has served on the boards of a wide range of high technology, new economy companies, as well as numerous not-for-profit organizations. Paul also has served as head varsity tennis coach for St. Francis.

Although scrum was originally used mainly in technology companies when it was developed more than 20 years ago, the principles can be used in almost any professional and even personal situation where the goal is to improve something and move it forward.
To provide the reader a better understanding of Scrum, Sutherland includes a variety of real-life examples of scrum implementations that include the FBI, auto manufacturers and non-profits. The book focused more on the “why” of Scrum than the “how,” but readers will still receive a nice introduction to what Scrum is and how it can be successfully implemented.
